ABOUT JAMES
Since the 1970s, James has channeled his passion for the whole of the built environment into a diverse set of projects. He understands that a person’s experience of a space cannot be reduced to a single element. As a result, his designs consider a wide variety of factors, including planning, architecture, interiors, lighting, and landscape.
While each project is beautiful and unique in its own right, there is always a rigorous sense of proportion and composition as well as an incredible sense of the human experience on all levels. As Mr. Carry’s mentor, Frank Lloyd Wright said, “The reality of a building is not within its walls and its roof, but the space and life within.”
ABOUT THE STUDIO
James formed the studio after retiring from an over 33-year career with Wilson Associates, the world’s leading architectural interiors group. His award-winning career as principal, executive vice president and managing director of Wilson Associates included collaborations on 6 continents across the hospitality industry.
His skill at iconic imagery resulted in project types including resorts, convention and boutique hotels, adaptive reuse, food & beverage, spas, casinos, high-end suites, multifamily, commercial and retail projects in addition to private residential work.
While the work is stylistically diverse, James brings a keen understanding of the client’s goals and an astute understanding of the project’s physical and cultural environment to each piece.
